Macpherson Resources

The following is a small but growing list of web links and information that may be of use to Macphersons whether they are members of the CMA or not. If you know of a website, etc. that would be a good addition to this compendium, please contact the webmaster. So far, there is not much order to this list. Once the number of resources grows a bit more, it will be broken down into categories for easier reference

  • Appendices to Glimpses of Church and Social Life in the Highlands in Olden Times and related Commentary -- This is from the website of Rod Clarke (a.k.a. Rory Mor) and contains a wealth of information about the Macphersons in the 18th & 19th centuries. While you're at it, check out the rest of Rod/Rory's website! It includes information on the Gaelic language.

  • Online Map of the Macpherson Homeland -- This interactive map is the perfect way to recconoiter!

  • Macphersons of Edinburgh -- A great place to buy your Kilt. Jean Macpherson has sold up and retired but the shop is famous for its service an hopefully the new owners will carry on the tradition.

  • Hector Russell -- Another place to go kilt shopping. While there is no apparant connection with the Macphersons, this Inverness based company also makes Hillwalker kilts; a more casual garment (with pockets!!!) that is perfect for the games field, hiking through the heather or knocking about towne on a braw saturday. The Hillwalker makes an excellent second (or third!) kilt. The webmaster is currently considering one in Ancient Hunting Macpherson as he's starting to get pretty ancient himself!

  • MacPherson's Celtic Cellar -- If you're looking for a vendor on the west side of the pond, this is the place to go. Donald John is also the Clan quartermaster for the American branch of CMA.

  • The Clan Macpherson Association -- Website for the international organisation. A lot of good material here.

  • CMA-Canada -- Website for the Canadian Branch. Excellent Macpherson tartan slide-show. Worth the visit alone!

  • Monarch Of The Glen Country -- The BBC series, Monarch OF The Glen is filmed in the heart of Macpherson-land. The series is currently airing in the US on some PBS stations as well as on the BBC America cable channel.

  • Monarch of the Glen -- The BBC's Monarch site.

  • Macpherson.org - An unofficial site dedicated to the Clan Macpherson, the magnificent language of Gaelic and all things Scottish.

  • Macpherson Page -- This website appears to be part of a larger on focusing on Clan Chattan. Check out the list of Macpherson tartans.

  • The Strathspey & Badenoch Herald -- The "Strathy" is the local newspaper for the Macpherson home area.

  • The Scotsman -- Scotland's National Newspaper. Not a Macpherson Resource per se, but it does have good coverage of the Highlands. A must-read for anyone interested in Scotland.

  • Kingussie - The Kingussie Community Website.

  • Greystones B&B -- Owned by Anne & Mark Johnstone. THE place to stay in Kingussie!!!

  • Newtonmore - Newtonmore's Website. Among other things, it contains information on the Clan Museum.

  • Laggan -- Laggan Community Web. Laggan represents the 3rd population centre in the Macpherson home-lands.
