Southern Maryland Celtic Festival

April 30, 2005

Southern Maryland was an event for which we made a valiant effort but in the end, gave it a miss. This event usually kicks off our participation in Scottish Games/Celtic Festivals but things began to look ominous the monday before the event. Serious rain was predicted for that saturday and the forecast did not get any better as the week progressed. Nonetheless, we loaded up at noon of Fri., April 29 and headed for Pasadena, MD where we were to spend the night before our sprint to St. Leonard the following morning.

The weather forecasts were not very promising and, true to form, it was raining in Pasadena when we awoke the next morning. The weather radar showed blotches of green headed for Southern MD and the decision was not hard to make. We have spent one too many Scottish weekends huddled under a tent on a sodden games field where the only people who drop by are representitives from other Clan Societies asking "When are you guys pulling out?" Been there. Done that. Caught the cold.

As it turned out, the heaviest rain missed St. Leonard and we heard that things were fairly decent down there. Of course, if Clan Macpherson had decided to chance it, the heavens would have opened up and, as we were informed after the event, our tent location was at the lowest spot on Clan Row.
