Gang Steal Salmon From Lawrence Case JudgeTaken from "The Daily Record" Scottish newspaper, Saturday May 8th, 1999. The Judge who chaired the Stephen Lawrence inquiry has been hit by salmon thieves. Sir William Alan Macpherson of Cluny was left fuming as his two prize fish were pinched during an angling trip. He had been fishing on the Islamouth stretch of the River Tay with his son in law Jerome LeRoy Lewis and friend Ian Petrie. The group had caught two salmon during a morning on the river and had left them the bank as they went back out on the afternoon. A short time later, the party could only watch from their boat as a white transit van pulled up outside their riverside hut. Three men then got out and made off with the two silver-scaled beauties weighing 11 pounds and 9 pounds as furious Sir William watched helplessly from the river. Sir William said he was delighted that nothing had been taken from the hut. He said they had managed to catch two more fish the following day. Sir William, 73, who lives at Newton Castle in Perthshire added " We were very disappointed" " I have never heard of this happening before" |
