Well, as it turned out, this here young lady decided that she wanted to get hitched and hold her wedding reception in the Kena ballroom on the very same day as the Annual Hillbilly hoe-down. Since the Hillbillys have always been pretty much in favor of gettin’ hitched, we decided to mosey on down to the Anek to have our barn dance. There weren’t ‘nuff room in the Anek to do the fancy decorations and balloon sculptures like we done in the past but we didn’t pay it no mind. Mike Amig parked Ol’ Cuss up on the grass by the front door and the Illustrious Don Moore fixed up a spotlight and before you knowed it, the place looked as purdy as one o’ them big city used car lots.

For those of you what ain’t been inside the Kena ballroom afore, it’s a big place; even bigger than the firehall in Boomer, NC! We wuz kinda worried that the Anek might be a triffle small for our annual go-in's on but it turned out to be down right cozy in there and most everyone had a fine ol’ time.

The Hillbilly Gals did a fine job of sellin’ beans and corn bread as well as enough sweets an' such vittles as to keep your dentist fussin’ at you for the rest of the year. If anyone went home with an empty belly it was their own durn fault.

The weather was down right warm that evening and a bunch o’ folks would go out on the front porch to chew the fat when the Campbell Brothers Band took a break. It was durin’ these intermissions that the Hillbillys had the drawin’s for door prizes and raffled off wheelbarrows of cheer and our famous 50-50 cash jackpot. Brother, we sold a heap of tickets for these drawin’s.

All ‘n all, everyone had a right fine time and the night was as almost as excitin’ as the time cousin Lester’s still blew up. Just so ya’ll won’t miss out on the next year’s event, we’ve gone ahead an’ planned to hold the ’99 hoe-down on March 27. Be sure n’ mark that down on your soshul calendar, ya hear?
