Ian Macpherson McCulloch, CD, is a native of Halifax, Nova Scotia and holds a honours degree in Journalism from Carleton University and a Master's in War Studies from the Royal Military College of Canada. He joined the Canadian Army in 1977 and has served in a variety of regimental and staff appointments in Canada, Germany and the USA  Promoted to lieutenant colonel in 1993, he assumed command of The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada in Montreal, Quebec.  In 1996, he was appointed Deputy Director of History and Heritage for the Canadian Forces at the National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa, Ontario. Lt. Col McCulloch is currently posted to Supreme Allied Command Transformation [SACT] HQ in Norfolk, Virginia

Ian is an avid military historian specializing in the Seven Years War in North America and has published articles in numerous international journals and magazines such as Osprey Military Journal (UK), Civil War (US), The BEAVER (Canada), Battlefield Review (UK), Celtic Heritage (Canada), Canadian Infantry Journal, Bulletin of the Fort Ticonderoga Museum (USA) The Dispatch (UK), among others. In 1998, Ian served as a historical consultant for the Seven Year’s War episode on CBC’s Canada: A People’s History, and has also appeared on A&E’s Civil War Journal. An original contributor to Fighting For Canada: Seven Battles (Robin Brass Studios:Toronto, 2000) with a monograph on the Battle of Ticonderoga, 1758, Ian’s most recent projects include: a battle study of the bloodiest action ever fought on Canadian soil - the Battle of Sillery,1760 outside Quebec - in the companion volume, More Fighting for Canada: Five Battles, 1760-1944 (Robin Brass: Toronto, 2004); authoring a book for Osprey Books (UK) entitled British Light Infantryman of the Seven Years War, 1756-1763, North America, (Oxford, 2004) and editing Through So Many Dangers:  The Memoirs and Adventures of Robert Kirk, Late of the Royal Highland Regiment (Purple Mountain Press:Fleichmanns, New York, 2004), a reprint of a rare 1775 book, first published in Ireland by a Highland soldier who served with the 42nd and 77th Regiments of Foot in North America, 1757-1767.

Ian is a active member of the Fort Ticonderoga Association and past Chairman of the Interpretation/Education Committee.  He lives in Virginia Beach with his wife Susan (a past Deputy Director of the Fort Ticonderoga Museum) where he is currently writing his next book; Sons of the Mountains: A History of the Highland Regiments in North America, 1756-1767., a joint publication of the Fort Ticonderoga Museum and Purple Mountain Press, due out Spring 2006.
